On 17th September 1993, M.P. Ahammed entered the gold jewellery business by opening ‘Malabar Gold’, a jewellery showroom at Kozhikode, on a modest capital, raised with the support of his friends and relatives. In the next decade, Malabar Gold saw a slow and steady expansion, and gradually caught up to become one of the most trusted gold jewellery brands across the world.
Malabar Gold’s first showroom outside Kerala was set on 12th April 2005 at Bangalore. Soon, on July 2008, Malabar opened its first showroom in GCC. Currently they have more than 120 showrooms in various parts of the world. In 2012 the brand was rebranded as Malabar Gold & Diamonds. And on 2013, 20 years since the opening of the first showroom, Malabar Gold and Diamonds opened its 100th showroom in Gurgaon, Haryana.
In 2005, the first commercial building of Malabar Group was set at Kozhikode, marking the launch of Malabar Group’s real estate division, titled Malabar Developers. The primary project was christened Malabar Gate, which is a landmark project in the heart of Calicut.
Currently Malabar Gold and Diamonds is the world’s third largest retail jewellery group in terms of annual turnover. M. P. Ahammed’s son and son-in-law currently are the Managing Directors of International Operations and India Operations of Malabar Gold and Diamonds respectively.
